Ryan is an Otolaryngologist with fellowship training in Head and Neck, and Thyroid Surgery. In addition to this, Ryan has an interest in minimally invasive nose and sinus surgery, and the management of sleep apnoea in adults and children.
Ryan was raised in Hobart, studying Medicine at the University of Tasmania, and completed his ENT registrar training in Melbourne including six months at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He gained Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2013.
He also undertook two overseas head and neck fellowships. The first in Ireland at Beaumont Hospital Dublin, a large teaching hospital and the National Centre for Cochlear Implantation in Ireland. This fellowship included the role of Clinical Lecturer in ENT at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland teaching medical students and GP registrars.
Ryan completed a second fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at St George’s University Hospital London. This included a high volume of benign and malignant thyroid tumours, and minimal access thyroidectomy in selected cases. Ryan also undertook a clinical attachment at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital under Associate Professor Greg Randolph, internationally respected thyroid surgeon and president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology.
Ryan places great importance on effective communication with his patients. He is committed to best patient care and attends the multidisciplinary head and neck and thyroid meetings at Monash, Austin and Epworth Hospitals. He is active in continuing professional development, has published numerous scientific papers in the field of ENT and is involved with clinical trials and research at Monash Health. He has a passion for the training and mentoring of junior doctors and is the ENT supervisor for Medical Students at Monash.
Ryan has public appointments at Monash, Austin and Swan Hill Hospitals.
In addition to his expertise in Head, Neck and Thyroid Surgery, Ryan welcomes referrals for all adult and paediatric ENT conditions.
When not at work, Ryan loves spending time with his two young children, hiking and playing guitar.
