Dr Andrei Diacon is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon with a clinical focus in shoulder and knee surgery. He has a particular interest in sports-related injuries, arthroscopic surgery, joint preservation, and the treatment of arthritis, including joint replacement where necessary.
He completed his medical degree at Monash University, graduating with an MBBS and Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) in 2012, before undertaking specialist orthopaedic training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2024. Following completion of his specialist training, Dr Diacon worked in the public sector for one year, managing on-call trauma injuries and elective surgery with a focus on robotic-assisted joint replacement and sports-related injuries.
He subsequently undertook advanced subspecialty fellowship training in the United Kingdom, working at the internationally renowned Bristol Knee Unit and Wrightington Upper Limb Unit. During this time, he developed further experience in joint preservation, minimally invasive keyhole techniques, ligament reconstruction, and complex knee and shoulder joint replacement, including custom-made and revision implants. His overseas training included working with mentors involved in the care of elite and professional athletes. As part of his broader international training, he also completed a six-month paediatric orthopaedic surgery rotation in Portland, Oregon (USA). He holds public appointments at Peninsula Health and Moorabbin Hospital, where he is actively involved in junior surgeon training.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr Diacon was a competitive downhill skier and continues to enjoy recreational skiing, along with kitesurfing and sailing on the bay. These interests strongly inform his passion for keeping patients active. He also values time spent with his wife and daughter and enjoys hiking and travel photography together.
